Perched high above the Mediterranean coastline on Spain’s Costa Blanca, SHA Wellness Clinic has long been recognised as one of the world’s leading wellness destinations. Renowned for its pioneering approach to longevity, SHA combines advanced medical diagnostics with holistic therapies, nutrition, and movement to create programmes that focus on optimising health and supporting healthy ageing.
From the moment I arrived, it was clear that SHA continues to evolve. The recently restyled rooms offer a fresh and contemporary feel, combining understated luxury with calming natural tones and spectacular sea views. My room was the perfect sanctuary between consultations, treatments, and wellness activities. Equally impressive is the upgraded Hydrotherapy Circuit, where a series of seawater-based experiences help promote relaxation, improve circulation, and ease muscular tension. It quickly became my favourite place to unwind.
The programme began with Advanced Health Optimisation Diagnostics and a comprehensive Longevity Consultation. These sessions provided valuable insights into my current health and highlighted practical steps to improve long-term wellbeing. What impressed me most was how personalised it felt – every consultation was tailored to my individual needs, with a clear focus on prevention and optimisation rather than simply addressing symptoms.
The body composition analysis was particularly valuable. Rather than relying solely on BMI, the assessment looked at muscle mass, body fat percentage, visceral fat levels, hydration status, and metabolic health – a far more comprehensive picture than most of us are used to. The results highlighted both strengths and areas for improvement, forming the basis for highly personalised recommendations around healthy ageing.
Nutrition lies at the heart of the SHA philosophy. The nutritional consultation explored how everyday food choices influence energy levels, digestion, recovery, and overall wellbeing. The emphasis being on sustainable habits rather than restriction.
Meals were a genuine highlight. Inspired by Mediterranean and Japanese culinary traditions, each dish was beautifully presented and full of flavour. A warming bowl of miso soup became a daily ritual I looked forward to, and SHA’s signature apple tea was a lovely touch. Dining with views over the Mediterranean was a daily reminder that eating well and eating enjoyably are not mutually exclusive.
Movement formed an important part of the programme too. A Pilates group class focused on posture, flexibility, balance, and core strength. It was energising and restorative in equal measure, and a reminder of how much regular mindful movement matters.
My treatment schedule balanced innovative medical therapies with more traditional wellness practices. GAH Intravenous Ozone therapy reflected SHA’s cutting-edge approach to health optimisation, while an Abhyanga Massage – warm oils, flowing Ayurvedic techniques – provided genuine deep relaxation. The two sit together surprisingly well, and that balance is very much part of what makes SHA distinctive.
Beyond the treatments, I valued the educational side of the programme. A SHA Talk on healthy weight management offered practical insights into metabolism, lifestyle habits, and longevity. It helped to reinforce the sense that SHA is as interested in what happens after you leave as what happens while you’re there.
On my final morning I took an early walk along the beach as the sun rose over the Mediterranean. I arrived hoping to recharge. I left with a clearer understanding of my health, a renewed sense of energy, and practical tools I could actually use at home.
SHA is much more than a luxury retreat. For anyone looking to invest seriously in their health while enjoying the beauty of the Spanish coast, it remains one of the most compelling wellness destinations in Europe.
