Port Douglas and Daintree

Port Douglas and the Daintree work particularly well together, combining access to the Great Barrier Reef with tropical rainforest, quieter beaches and a slower pace than some of Australia’s larger coastal destinations. This part of Far North Queensland is ideal for travellers wanting time outdoors, whether that’s snorkelling on the reef, exploring the rainforest or simply spending a few days close to the water.

Port Douglas is often used as a base for reef excursions, with regular departures to the outer Great Barrier Reef for snorkelling and diving trips. Further north, the Daintree Rainforest brings a completely different landscape, with ancient rainforest, river systems and quiet lodges surrounded by nature.
