I recently had the pleasure of a stay at Domes Miramare on the pretty island of Corfu. Just a 35-minute scenic drive south from the airport, this serene, adults-only resort has a lovely blend of modern elegance and traditional charm.
Domes Miramare has an interesting layout that spans both sides of the coastal road. The original seaside section houses the main reception, lobby, and waterfront rooms, while a newly developed area across the road is accessible via a pretty stylish tunnel. Upon arrival, valet parking is available if needed. The resort has been built around ancient olive trees, including one in the lobby that is over 1,000 years old!
Dining options are great, and varied. The main restaurant, 1962, named after the year the original hotel was built, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner right on the water’s edge. It offers a fixed main menu as part of the half-board option, alongside a selection of daily changing specials. I tried a prawn starter with Corinthian raisins, pine nuts and fish roe-rosemary spread, and then as main Pastitisio Dolce – fresh handmade pasta, ragu from meat variety, bechamel foam and sweet ‘n salty crumble – both incredibly delicious! They have a wonderful selection of non-alcoholic and alcoholic cocktails, wines and licquers.
For something different, there is both an Asian and fine dining restaurant in the new section, reservations are essential, they can fill up quickly. While breakfast and lunch are served exclusively at 1962, snacks are available both pool bars which was a good options for a light bite. The Blue Bar opens daily from 10am to 10pm, there is live music most evenings which I really enjoyed.
The new section of the resort includes a dedicated wellness area, complete with a fitness room, spa, and a beautiful panoramic pool. The Soma Spa offers a range of treatments across five treatment rooms, and if you’re looking to keep active, there are six Pilates sessions each week and daily yoga classes. Both Saturday and Monday are rest days though so bear this is mind. I loved the floor-to-ceiling windows in the fitness room, with views of the sea, it definitely makes working out feel that bit more enjoyable!
Domes Miramare has a range of accommodation options, including the new Jade and Opal rooms in the recently developed section and classic Emerald rooms in the original building located over two floors. Each room is sea facing with a balcony and table with chairs, although some are set back a little with garden views in the foreground so worth bearing in mind when making your choice. Opal rooms are also the largest.
Due to the location on the east side of the island, you can get gorgeous sunrise views from your balcony, while sipping a coffee in your bathrobe (which I did!).
For anyone looking for a bit more space you might like to consider a Pavilion or Villa, both have a beachfront location. Some Pavilion options connect, ideal if you’re booking for a larger group or family.
Guests who book higher-tier accommodations have access to the exclusive Haute Living area, located at the end of the resort near the villas and pavilions. This private lounge provides snacks, drinks, and pool access from 10am to 10pm. The Haute Living area also includes a jacuzzi, plunge pool, yoga space, and a shower room for those with late check-outs, and secluded access to the sea.
If you’re looking for a great add on to your stay then you can book the Mirametta boat, which starts at €2000 per day and comfortably fits up to 8 adults (or 12 with children). Add-ons include snacks and drinks, making it a great option for a day of exploration! Also on offer are things like traditional Greek coffee making, olive oil harvesting, farming, fishing and live classical music.
A short walk takes you to the town of Moraitika where there’s a great choice of restaurants and bars which line the beach. Well worth a visit is the village church (The Dormition of Mary) with its beautiful bell tower.
I really loved my stay here, it’s ideal if you like a little bit of everything – unwinding by the pool, relaxation with spa treatments, fitness activities and cultural immersion.
