Esther’s Visit To The Olivar Suites

Tucked away in the peaceful town of Messonghi and just a five-minute drive from another property I love, Domes Miramare, The Olivar Suites is a luxurious sanctuary for those seeking a serene retreat in Corfu.

Whilst I was on a Corfu trip recently I jumped at the chance to pay this pretty property a visit. It’s fairly new, having only opened in June 2021. The hotel was developed on a former olive grove and it offers an elegant blend of modern design and traditional Greek heritage.

Setting and Layout

The Olivar Suites is divided by a quiet, small street, with most rooms and reception on one side and the beach, restaurant, and select suites on the other. This unique layout allows guests to enjoy the property’s secluded feel while being just a stone’s throw from the sea. Private beach access is available exclusively for guests, complete with complimentary sun loungers and gazebos, perfect for a sun-soaked day by the water.

There are 220 suites spread across eight different room types so you should be able to find the perfect configuration for you (more on that later). The beach bar, housed in a UNESCO-protected building crafted from olive wood, adds a hint of historic charm and offers a boutique, shaded terrace, and a casual spot to enjoy a drink or light meal by the sea.

Stylish Suites

The Olivar Suites offers a variety of luxurious suite choices, all thoughtfully designed to blend contemporary comfort with a minimalist aesthetic. The ground-floor suites come with private pools, while the top-floor suites have serene sea or garden views. While all rooms are equipped with rain showers, some suites (such as the Ionian and Riviera Suites) feature bathtubs too.

If you’re seeking even more space, the Executive Suites offer the largest private pools, accommodating up to three guests, and the Corfu Suite provides a two-bedroom layout, ideal for up to four people. The Ionian Suite includes a separate lounge area that can double as a sleeping area for a child, a second bathroom, and its own private pool, making it perfect for small families. Although the room pools aren’t heated, the warm climate ensures they’re comfortable for most of the season, though they can feel a bit fresh towards the end of the year.

Dining and Amenities

The main restaurant, Flya, specialises  in Mediterranean and Corfiot cuisine with a bit of a modern twist led by Head Chef Thomas Barmpakis. The menu is rich in fresh seafood, organic vegetables, and herbs. For more relaxed dining, the Pool Bar serves a lighter menu which includes “Meze” and snacks,  perfect for a relaxing pool-side lunch.

‘Olibar’ is a chic spot for cocktails and fine wines. The atmosphere is relaxed but sophisticated, it’s ideal for enjoying light bites and locally inspired drinks. Expect to hear live jazz, saxophone or cello music here several times a week which is a great touch!

Wellness

The spa is fairly small but lovely, and a range of in-suite treatments are available too. You can view the current ‘spa menu’ here. There’s also a small gym and sauna, plus private yoga and Pilates sessions can also be arranged.

Guest Services

A touch I love is that every suite is equipped with a tablet that provides information on hotel services and amenities, making it super easy for guests to arrange reservations, room service, or spa treatments.  Guest Services here are excellent, they are always on hand to assist with bookings and recommendations, from arranging local tours to securing dining reservations.

Beach and Pool

As I mentioned there is a beautiful private beach area, where you can relax on sun loungers or under gazebos. The beach itself is a mix of sand and pebbles, there are definitely quite few pebbles when entering the sea so watch out for those. The area is lovely though so well worth it!

The hotel pool is another peaceful spot for relaxation, it’s exclusively for guests and is surrounded by lush greenery and comfortable loungers. Although this is a family-friendly property, the calm atmosphere does make it feel more suited to couples or adults seeking a quieter getaway.

Children

Children are welcome as mentioned, but you won’t find any planned activities for them, and there are limited amenities, so it really depends on what type of family holiday you are looking for. They do however provide cots, baby baths, and babysitting services upon request which are great touches if you do choose to visit as a family. If you’re looking for a hotel that is more family-focused throughout we’d suggest having a read of this blog.
