Vietnam is such a fascinating country. One moment you’re in the middle of a lively street scene filled with colour and scent; the next, you’re drifting quietly along a river, surrounded by limestone cliffs or palm-lined waterways. This itinerary has been carefully designed to let you experience a bit of everything, without rushing, and with expert support every step of the way.
We begin in Hanoi with some time to get to settle, explore and get to know the group. There’s a wonderful mix here of lively street life and some quieter moments too — from wandering through historic neighbourhoods and lakeside temples to sampling local dishes on a guided street food walk. One of our days takes us out into the countryside, where we drift by sampan through the limestone scenery of Hoa Lu and Tam Coc, a gentler, greener contrast to the city’s energy.
From Hanoi, we travel to Halong Bay for a highlight of the journey that I’m so excited for: a one-night overnight cruise among its iconic limestone karsts. Spending the night on the water allows you to experience the bay at its most peaceful — enjoying lunch and dinner on board, watching the light change as day visitors leave, and waking up surrounded by emerald sea and dramatic rock formations. It’s a completely different experience to a day trip, and one that many guests remember most vividly.
The journey continues south to Hoi An. Here, there’s time to breathe — a free day to enjoy the beach or spa, a hands-on cooking class that begins at a local market and ends around the table, and explorations of the old town’s lantern-lit streets. We also visit the Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills and enjoy a river cruise at sunset, watching fishermen cast their nets as the day draws to a close.
Our final days are spent in and around Ho Chi Minh City, offering yet another insight into Vietnam. Guided visits and walks reveal layers of history and everyday life, while excursions beyond the city take us to the Cu Chi tunnels and into the lush waterways of the Mekong Delta. Here, life moves with the river — by boat and sampan, past floating farms, coconut workshops and shaded canals — before returning to the city for our last dinner together.
One evening, we experience Saigon after dark by Vespa, stopping for food, music and rooftop views along the way. It’s a fun, relaxed way to see a different side of the city and a lovely note to end on.
Travelling this way — as a small group, with everything arranged for you — allows you to focus on the experience itself rather than the logistics. I’ll be there throughout the journey, helping things run smoothly and making sure everyone feels supported, informed and free to enjoy Vietnam as it unfolds.
