The Alpina Gstaad is the first 5 star luxury hotel to open in this pretty Swiss village for over a century. It’s been worth the wait!
Nestled in five acres and beautifully and meticulously crafted from local materials (including stone from the Alps and tons of reclaimed wood from nearby centuries-old farmhouses), this new £200m gem includes a spectacular Six Senses Spa, plus 56 balconied rooms and suites, two pools, a cigar lounge, a movie theater and wine room, and three restaurants.
Since Gstaad is still a celebrity favourite, privacy is important: guests drive in belowground and emerge in a private garden, free from the prying lenses of the paparazzi. Once out of the hotel, guests can enjoy the area’s 155 miles of pistes in the winter ski season or head out on any number of incredible mountain hikes in the summer. With its 11 mountain railways, 200 miles of hiking trails and 300 miles of routes for mountain biking, the Gstaad-Saanenland region offers the very best of Switzerland for outdoor sports enthusiasts.
The 20,000 sq.ft Alpina Spa is a wonderfully luxurious sanctuary with flexible, intimate space. Some rooms allow couples to take treatments together while three treatment rooms are interconnected to create a ‘Ladies Only’ zone for those who prefer private access to the female changing area and wet facilities. The spa’s 12 treatment rooms include:
Floatation Room
Hammam
Colonics Treatment Room
Colour Therapy Room
Ayurveda Treatment Room
Oriental Room
Salt Room
Cave Room for couples treatments
5 multifunctional single treatment rooms
Other facilities include an organically shaped indoor pool, an outdoor garden pool, two Jacuzzis, a yoga studio, gym and juice bar. For children, there is a salt play area in the Salt Room. Kids also have a separate pool with a mini slide.
The Schönried rooms look towards the softly rolling hills of the Bernese Alps whilst the Deluxe Rooms Gstaad afford vistas of the village and, in the far distance, Les Diablerets glacier.
The generously sized Junior Suites have separate bedroom and sitting room areas, and the Deluxe Suites enjoy the views towards Gstaad village.
The Grand Luxe Suites have additional entertaining space and feel like a private apartment while the 3 bedroom Panorama suites are 400m2 and even have their own private spa and fitness room.
