The islands of Malta and Gozo are located a few miles apart in the centre of the Mediterranean, about 60 miles due south of Sicily.
First inhabited about 5,000 BC, the islands have long been of vital strategic importance to seafaring nations and have been settled by Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, the Knights of St John, the French and, most recently, became a British crown colony in 1813 until the islands declared independence in 1964.

The region enjoys long hot summers and mild winters and should be considered a year round destination. Because of the weather on the islands of Malta and Gozo, travellers visit to sunbathe almost all year long – except for some of the coolest winter months. We therefore suggest that the best months to visit are from April to October.
