To get the maximum benefit from your treatment programme, Ayurveda Maha Gedara recommends that you do not skip any treatments, but they are usually in either the morning or afternoon, so you will be able to go out on half-day excursions if you want.
You can learn what the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery is doing to help save local turtles, or go on a river trip on the Madu Ganga to see mangrove forests and prawn fishermen. Or you can see how moonstones are mined. Slightly further afield, Galle (UNESCO World Heritage site) is about an hour south and worth a visit for its brooding fort and boutique stores.
Within the hotel, there is always something going on in the craft workshops – you can watch talented artisans at work. The hotel also organises regular evening entertainment, including live oriental bands, cultural shows of dancing, local rituals and fire eating, and puppet shows.

Accommodation is arranged over three floors, all facing the pool and the sea, with private balconies. The style is one of natural elegance, with tiled floors, wooden furniture and slatted blinds.
