Tucked within soaring conifers on the water’s edge, Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge is formed from a series of stand-alone campaign-style tents. However, the word hardly does this stay justice. Lofty headroom, bright interiors, and classy mid-century design provide ample opportunity for relaxation.
Surrounded by the natural world, it is perhaps no surprise that Canada wildlife holidays play a lead part of stays, with guests given a personalised activities itinerary on arrival. Ocean-based adventures include zodiac tours in search of breaching whales and wandering grizzlies, while the area is also a haven for hikers and equestrians.
Guests looking to interact with nature have the chance to kayak and paddleboard along Bedwell Sound. Closer to home, the Healing Grounds Spa contains two treatment rooms, a riverfront massage tent and yoga room. There is also a sauna, outdoor hot tub and lounge space where the only sounds are the trickling of water and chirrup of birdsong.
Menus at Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge are changed daily, blending the finest regional ingredients. The contemporary cuisine is inspired by the cultural diversity defining Canada’s Pacific northwest. Popular dishes include freshly-caught fish ceviche and organic beef steak, perfectly matched with draught beers and an excellent wine cellar.
The resort comprises just 25 individual tents designed and furnished by interiors experts Baillie Lodges. Starting at 48m2, they are positioned either within the rainforest or on the waterfront. Each has a king-sized bed and a large private outdoor terrace, in addition to interiors rich in beautifully-crafted wood.
The 115m2 Hillside Family suite comprises two tents and can sleep four. Connected by an internal door and shared exterior terrace, each tent has its own living area alongside a full bathroom with outdoor cedar-clad shower.
