Two families created Farewell Harbour Lodge out of a love for this corner of the British Colombia wilderness. It has a coastal location on the western side of Berry Island, between mainland Canada and Vancouver Island. The lodge therefore has a prime position between the Great Bear Rainforest’s grizzly habitat and waters rich in salmon, orca, and humpback whales.
The Lodge is sat in 30 acres of pristine private forest. Interiors are strong on cedar wood and other natural materials. Additionally, indigenous artworks provide a touch of colour. Large channel-facing picture windows also ensure guests never miss a whale-watching opportunity. Homely yet luxurious, the handful of guest suites surround the main lodge building.

Safari style drives take guests deep into the Great Bear Rainforest in search of bear sightings. Orca and humpback whales can be spotted on boat tours. The deck connects with a shoreline boardwalk used by eight ocean-side suites. A further four suites are located on a unique floating lodge, bringing total availability to just 12 suites. They contain two double beds and a gas fireplace without feeling constricted. The absence of televisions and phones is deliberate, allowing guests to become immersed in the natural beauty of the location.
