Built at the height of Kotor Bay’s time under Venetian rule, Palazzo Radomiri was one of many weekend homes that sprung up in Dobrota for affluent traders. They’d spend their week living and working in Old Town Kotor, just 4km away, before retreating along the coast for a few days of peace in their waterfront palazzos. And just like the 18th-century Radomiri family, guests can still come here to enjoy the tranquil seaside beauty of this unassuming village. To complete the fabulous waterside view, magnificent mountains tower all around the bay.

The 10 traditional rooms gaze out over the bay. Inside there are antique beds with embroidered throws, heavy wooden wardrobes and dressers, perhaps a painted landscape or gilded mirror. Bathrooms are a much more modern affair: sleek marble in soft beige or grey, fluffy white robes and towels, and pretty Etro toiletries. Deluxe, Junior and Family Suites have a shower over a bathtub, while all other rooms have a shower only.
Fly to Tivat, Montenegro (available from Manchester and Gatwick during the summer: June to September), followed by a 30 minute transfer. Or fly to Dubrovnik, Croatia, followed by a 90 minute transfer.
