Phinda is a luxury private game reserve located in the KwaZulu Natal Province in North-East South Africa. The reserve is a magnificent mix of woodland, grassland and wetland punctuated with mountains, rivers and marshes. It is easily accessible from Richards Bay airport which is a short flight from Johannesburg. All the big five roam the reserve as well as cheetah and over 400 bird species. It is also extremely close to the east coast and the white beaches that abound in South Africa. This gives you ample opportunity to also scuba dive during your stay at Phinda and full dive courses are available.
At Phinda, the team like to share their knowledge and understanding of the bush and its inhabitants with the guests. How they do this is up to you – choose whether you prefer to do your game viewing from the comfort of a safari vehicle, close up on foot or even from a boat or canoe. The highly trained rangers and trackers will do their utmost to delight guests with a selection of the following activities:
Phinda is made up of six unique lodges that have been designed to complement the different habitats perfectly. Forest Lodge sits in the shade deep in the heart of a forest, while Mountain Lodge has remarkable views out over the Reserve. Vlei Lodge is on the edge of the forest and overlooks the vast wetland, while Rock Lodge sits peering over a deep valley below. Phinda is also home to two safari villas, Zuka Lodge and The Homestead, for exclusive use.
By road: 6 hours from Johannesburg, 3 hours from Durban, 1 1/2 hours from Richards Bay.
By air: SA Express offer daily scheduled flights from Johannesburg to Richards Bay. Road transfers from King Shaka International Airport to Phinda can be arranged. We can also arrange private charters from anywhere in South Africa directly to Phinda’s private airstrip.
