Tyax Lodge and Heli-Skiing offers those looking for a Canada log cabin holiday modern chalet-style accommodation, and an authentic British Colombia welcome. It offers a mix of backcountry seclusion in the mountain peaks north of Whistler. It is situated on the shores of Lake Tyaughton and has a reputation as one of Canada’s best heli-ski destinations.
Turning the classical image of an alpine chalet on its head, Tyax Lodge manages to maintain the charm and ambience of old-world ski spots, with structures made from golden conifer logs and open fires. But natural light streams into its interiors thanks to large expanses of glass, and rooms are decorated in a simple style which allows the lake and mountain views to do all the talking.
At the heart of nearly 400 mapped ski runs in a million acres, Tyax Lodge is the home of Canada’s single-group heli-skiing scene. At 1,000 metres above sea level, the lodge has access to more than 50 miles of skiable slopes at multiple compass points, ensuring excellent slope time throughout the winter season. During the summer, the lake provides an alternative adventure centre, alongside almost endless mountain biking and hiking trails.
If sore muscles are a concern, guests can turn to the full-service Spa at Tyax. Mountain views can be enjoyed from an outdoor hot tub, while a yoga and fitness studio overlooks the lake. Trained masseurs are on hand for extra-level relaxation, alongside a steam room, infrared and dry saunas.
Taking advantage of British Colombia’s culinary pedigree, menus at Tyax Lodge are designed to match what is seasonally available and place an emphasis on organic, environmentally-friendly and sustainable foods without reducing the quality of dishes. The on-site kitchen garden provides fruits and vegetables boasting food metres rather than food miles, with seafood coming from the local rivers and meats from the region’s farms.
Twenty-eight rooms are located within the main lodge and are spacious and airy at 35m2. They contain two queen-sized beds. There are also three separate chalets called Lynx, Spirit Bear, and Wolverine, each of which are ideal for multi-generation Canada family holidays. They feature an outdoor patio, firepit and fully-equipped kitchen alongside the four (Lynx), six (Spirit Bear), or nine (Wolverine) bedrooms.
