Vorarlberg is the most western state in Austria and borders three countries: Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
The capital of Vorarlberg is Bregenz and is the only state in Austria where the local dialect is not an Austro-Bavarian one, but rather an Alemannic dialect. It, therefore, has much more in common culturally with its neighbours Switzerland and Liechtenstein rather than with Bavaria and the rest of Austria.
The region has its greatest appeal during the typical ski season, ie from December through to March, however, summer time is an absolutely beautiful time to visit for hiking and biking. Choose July or August for the most guaranteed sunny weather.
