The mighty Zambezi River flows beside one of our all-time favourite luxury lodges, Tongabezi, on its way to the awesome Victoria Falls, known locally as Mosi Oa Tunya (‘the smoke that thunders’).
Many consider the Victoria Falls to be a ‘must see’ and we agree. We particularly like the ‘moonbows’ (lunar rainbows) arching through the mist when the moon is bright, and, in the day time, enjoying the incredible views of the Falls from Livingstone Island which sits atop the gorge in the middle of the Zambezi. You can even take a plunge in a pool on the cliff edge, before tucking into a delicious lunch.

Between May and August is the coolest time of the year with temperatures hitting between 28°C during the day and dropping off to as low as 7°C during the night. This season, known as the dry season is the best time to visit before the hot season starts in September through to November and when the temperatures soar into the 40s. Avoid the wet when the temperatures are in the 30s between December and April and, true to its name, it rains, often for days, and the roads become impassable.
