Cape Weligama

The 40 free-standing villas and suites have been designed to reflect a traditional Sri Lankan village whilst using stylish, contemporary interiors, cleverly balancing colonial influences with luxurious finishes.

The food at Cape Weligama is exceptional, using fresh local produce and made to order dishes. There are three different restaurants: the De Mauny Dining Pavilion overlooking the bay, an alfresco Sri Lankan village style restaurant and a Japanese Teppanyaki restaurant. There is also a tea pavilion, and the Moon Bar beside the crescent shaped pool.

There is a fully equipped fitness room and two beaches which are virtually private. There is a beach side Dive Centre offering PADI courses, private boat-trips, big-game fishing, whale and dolphin watching.

Cape Weligama’s location enables guests to venture out exploring by day and then returning at night, perhaps to enjoy a massage on your private terrace. Galle is just 30 minutes away.  If you want to be more active, you can go surfing or kayaking or jump on a bicycle and explore the nearby villages and ancient temples.

For adventures further afield, dedicated naturalists and cultural guides are on hand to whisk you off in private vehicles for personalised tours. Must see destinations include Mirissa’s vibrant boat harbour, Matara’s crumbling ruins and the historic Galle Fort where cobbled streets encased in coral and granite walls reveal ochre washed colonnaded houses, colonial churches, and renowned jewellery boutiques. Elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, and even Sri Lanka’s famous leopards may be spotted on day trips to the national parks of Uda Walawe and Yala.

Whilst the resort does not have a dedicated kids’ club, there’s plenty of things to keep your children happy and entertained.  Depending on age, children and families can explore remote coves by kayak, or test their skills at surfing.  Alternatively, why not jump on a bicycle and explore the nearby villages and ancient temples or take a boat trip along the coast.  If the children are interested in seeing animals, the concierge can arrange a drive to Uda Walawe National Park to view elephants, elusive leopards, water buffalos, deer and crocodiles. Flocks of birds that belong to a large number of varying species, including species of eagles, parrots, and herons can all be observed easily.
