Away from the heat of the coastal regions, Sri Lanka’s Hill Country contains some of the island’s most glorious scenery.
From the terraced tea plantations of Nuwara Eliya to the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, the Hill Country is a very special interior mountainous area, filled with beauty and charm. Watch out for monkeys in the mist-filled jungle, and the sounds of waterfalls nearby.
Just outside Kandy, we are recommending a stay at Santani for its peace, beauty and holistic wellness programmes. Or, for easy access to Kandy, we would highly recommend The Kandy House.
Nearby, for golfers looking to play Sri Lanka’s best course – and one of the most scenic in the world – we would recommend Clingendael. And there’s lots for non-golfers to enjoy too!
If you would like to enjoy the ‘essential tea trails’ experience we recommend Norwood Bungalow.
Year round destination. Because the Hill Country it so high up it rarely gets unbearably hot. The months of December to April are probably the best time to visit, as temperatures rise to around 28C during the day but cool down at night. During the monsoon season from October to December you can expect heavy downpours. June to September are the driest months here, when there’s almost no rain at all.
