The ‘Red City’, surrounded by ancient walls, is a truly remarkable place. So different, so exotic and so chaotic! We’ve taken hundreds of guests to Marrakech over the years, many of whom return again and again, and we think Marrakech is a ‘must see’ destination.
There’s the ancient Medina (a UNESCO World Heritage site) that you can explore for hours looking for bargains (remember to haggle!) and the main square, Djamaa El Fna, comes alive at night with food stalls. The Majorelle Gardens (former home of Yves Saint Laurent) is a peaceful green oasis, whilst the tallest structure in Marrakech is the 12th century Koutoubia Minaret. At around 70 metres high, it makes an excellent marker for you to orientate yourself.
Inside the city walls, we have a selection of delightful traditional Moroccan houses with internal courtyards, known as riads, and some excellent hotels. Most of our hand-picked riads and hotels have spas. We also have several excellent private villas just outside the city, all with gardens and swimming pools and all fully staffed.
Our comprehensive selection of places to stay means that we have options for couples, families, groups of adults and solo travelers.
We think it’s a good idea to head in to the Atlas Mountains as part of your experience when visiting Marrakech and, with this in mind, we would recommend the spectacular and luxurious Kasbah Tamadot or a charming but more rustic little hotel called La Roseraie
Alternatively, in the foothills, half way between Marrakech and the mountains, we recommend three new excellent (and reasonably priced) boutique hideaways: Le Palais Paysan, the Capaldi, and, best for families, is the quirky Fellah.
Apart from absorbing and enjoying the culture of this great city (we have excellent, highly knowledgeable guides), our experts can also organize hiking, mountain biking, riding and cookery courses. Either as the specific purpose of your holiday or as one of a mixture of activities each day.
Now that an excellent new motorway has just opened connecting Marrakech to the coast at Agadir (2.5 hours), why not combine a trip to Marrakech with a visit to Paradis Plage for some yoga, surfing and spa indulgence? Perhaps staying in the Atlas Mountains en route?
The Healthy Holiday Company also hosts a selection of 7 night in:spa retreats – magical health, fitness and detox holidays at a luxury private villa in Marrakech.
