The Algarve region in southern Portugal is the perfect place to visit all year round. With warm temperatures even during the winter months, there are some great fitness activities you can enjoy in the sunshine, and end your days in some relaxation time and pampering.

Spanning from the beaches on the Atlantic coast towards the more inland Portuguese towns and luscious green hills, there is some fantastic hiking on offer or for beautiful coastal walks, head to the unspoilt and breath-taking west coast where the only thing you might stumble upon is a surfer.

The area is also home to some very well-known golf courses and is one of Europe's premier golf destinations. There are twenty-three 18-hole golf courses with dramatic sea views and challenging putts for those golf enthusiasts.

Noth of Lisbon, near to the magical UNESCO protected hilltop town of Sintra, is Penha Longa with a superb golf course, a fitness studio, a wonderful Six Senses spa and a selection of regular classes in yoga, meditation and Qi Dong.

Weather and when to go

With a warm and sunny climate the Summers are hot and the Winters mild. During July and August the temperature can rise to over 45°C, however the average temperature over the high season between June and September is a more moderate 27°C. During the Spring and Autumn the crowds have mostly dispersed however the weather is still warm around 16°C. November to March tends to see quite a lot of rain.
