Snorkelling is a very popular activity around the pretty bays, coves and beaches on the pretty Greek island of Paxos.
Apart from walking or hiking on the island, the best way of taking some refreshing exercise is to don your snorkel and fins and jump in to the sea. The water is warm and clear and just about all the bays and coves around the island are good for snorkelling.
The east and west coasts of Paxos could hardly be more different. The former is gently shelved, rocky, and heavily wooded, with headlands and bays perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Each attracts an armada of boats and yachts. The west is spectacular, with white cliffs that plunge straight into a sea that needs no Photoshop enhancement. This coast is dotted with sea caves and grottoes, and liberally-scattered needles and buttresses of offshore rocks. Get your camera out for the Ortholithos Rock, which looks like a great shark’s fin, and the much-photographed Tripitos Arch.
We have a selection of charming villas available to rent on the island.
